Work in Progress

News, thoughts and opinions about the world of local independent online media in the UK and beyond.

Philip John

It would have been so much more enjoyable to have been writing a newsletter to you all yesterday, but I had to go for a good telling off from my dentist instead.

The Morning Walk Laying in Bed Listing to the Rain

While I did listen to a podcast this morning, whilst laying in bed rather than go out in the hideous rain that has descended on the usually very sunny and warm England(!), there wasn’t much worth sharing so you’re spared my thoughts on that today.

What’s Happening

Visitors to Reach websites may find their habits are now being sold to Amazon. In a deal reported by Press Gazette this week. It’s not clear whether that will happen before or after visitors wade through the shit storm of pop-ups and intrusive ads on Reach’s local “news” sites.

Have you been waiting to get on to Bluesky? It’s now open to all.

Congratulations to Rhiannon Davies of Greater Govanhill Magazine and The Scottish Beacon who was awarded the Women in Journalism Georgina Henry Award at the British Journalism Awards 2023 for her incredible efforts in founding the Beacon which brings together independent local publishers.
